Most visitors find 2-3 days ideal for exploring Tangier’s main attractions. This allows time to wander the medina, visit museums, enjoy the beaches, and take in the city’s unique atmosphere. Add 1-2 additional days if you plan to take day trips to nearby Chefchaouen (the Blue City) or Asilah.

Tangier has become significantly safer for tourists in recent years following major infrastructure investments. The main tourist areas, including the medina and beach promenade, are well-policed. As in any city, basic precautions like avoiding isolated areas at night and watching for pickpockets in crowded places are advisable.

High-speed ferries connect Tarifa, Spain to Tangier in about 1 hour, with multiple daily departures. Slower, cheaper ferries run from Algeciras to Tangier Med port (about 1.5 hours), though this port is 40km from Tangier city. Book tickets in advance during summer and holiday periods when services can fill up.

Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer ideal weather with warm temperatures (20-25°C) and minimal rainfall. Summer (June-August) brings hot weather and larger crowds, while winter (November-March) can be rainy but mild, with fewer tourists and lower prices.

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport is located about 12km from the city center. Official “petit taxis” with meters cost approximately 100-150 MAD (fixed price). Pre-arranged hotel transfers typically cost 200-300 MAD. Public bus #4 offers the most economical option at around 5 MAD, though it runs less frequently.
